Atmosphere nursery

We grow pleached trees in multiple sizes. There is a large choice of young and old espaliers, something for everyone's budget.

Planting espaliers begins with making an informed choice. Tree species and tree shape very much determine the atmosphere of a garden. Pleached trees can serve as a background, neutral and unobtrusive if so desired. A green wall that is able to conceal a building in the distance or the looks of a curious neighbour. Making the right choice requires taking various factors into consideration. Finding the size you want, the type of tree, the appropriate shape, the tree species according to soil, the right color, the required incidence of light.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Due to our years of experience we can propose solutions that perhaps hadn't crossed your mind yet.

The green pleached Fagus or pleached Beech is one of our standard espaliers at the nursery.

We grow this tree in multiple stem heights. We can also provide you with a pleached beech with a lower or higher stem height.

We can also accommodate you if you are looking for an extra high screen.

The beech provides a compact but structured screen in a neutral green. The beech is sometimes confused with the pleached hornbeam. The leaf of the beech has a slight sheen and the color is slightly darker than the leaf of the hornbeam.

The leaves of the pleached beech are marscessant . It is due to this characteristic that you can see the difference between the pleached beech and the pleached hornbeam although nowadays we grow both types as evergreens.

This espalier is available on screen. Pleached fagus gives a nice result and are similar in terms of maintenance to the hornbeam.

Fagus is semi-marcescant when pleached but marcescent as a hedge.

The Copper beech works wonderfully well as a pleached tree. Its properties are similar to that of the Green beech. This red variety is also a marcescent tree. The tree is slightly more sensitive to sunburn which means it is unsuitable for planting in places where there is a lot of sun or light reflection.

Available in screen form.

Combining the red beech with green hedges can be quite striking. The green of the hedges is brought out by the light to dark red leaves of the beech.

The pleached pin oak
The pin oak as espalier has a very atmospheric and natural appearance.
The magnificent leaves of this tree produce a beautiful light influx because of the way the leaf margins are incised.
We select trees that are evergreen.
Pleached pin oaks can be used both as a screen and as an espalier (in layers).
Besides the pleached pin oak we also cultivate this tree in a parasol shape (for solar shading control). This tree is very suitable as a natural parasol.
We offer the pleached pin oak as root-balled trees or container-grown trees. We don't offer  bare-root trees because we want to guarantee a tree that grows well..
Tree height 150, 180, 200, 220, 250, 275cm
In addition to our standard stem heights, we also grow deviant stem heights.
We also cultivate these trees as extra high screens in mature sizes.
The pin oak as espalier buds in spring, it grows light green, star shaped leaves. During the summer the leaves create a nice effect of depth thanks to the leaf shape and the different shades of green. During the autumn period the pin oak bursts into a unique spectacle of colors.
Contrary to what is claimed, the pin oak is not suitable for all soil types. Please seek advice before planting a pin oak.
