Atmosphere nursery

Evergreen espaliers offer many advantages over deciduous types, if properly applied.
The tree retains its leaves thus guaranteeing privacy even during the winter months.
Most of these evergreen trees grow slower and are easier to maintain.
Shedding of leaves is negligible, allowing you to remain in your neighbours' good books.
We usually sell these trees in screen form because they are able to filter the view optimally. Many of these trees are planted because they are very beautiful.

Pleached evergreen trees require special attention during cultivation, transportation and planting. Since first selling evergreen espaliers years ago, we have  adjusted the way we grow them and have optimized the manner of application. We gladly share our knowledge and experience, gained by close cooperation with gardeners, landscapers and arborists, in creating your evergreen curtains.

We grow pleached trees in multiple sizes. There is a large choice of young and old espaliers, something for everyone's budget.

Planting espaliers begins with making an informed choice. Tree species and tree shape very much determine the atmosphere of a garden. Pleached trees can serve as a background, neutral and unobtrusive if so desired. A green wall that is able to conceal a building in the distance or the looks of a curious neighbour. Making the right choice requires taking various factors into consideration. Finding the size you want, the type of tree, the appropriate shape, the tree species according to soil, the right color, the required incidence of light.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Due to our years of experience we can propose solutions that perhaps hadn't crossed your mind yet.

The right parasol tree is more than a replacement for the traditional sun umbrella. Your parasol tree determines the atmosphere on your terrace. We provide several options, each with their own specific light incidence. This light incidence is determined by the type, the manner of cultivation and the state of the structural branches.
We pay a lot of attention to the stem height and the light transmittance of the foliage.

A tree is deemed suitable as a parasol tree if it meets certain criteria. Here is an overview of some of the criteria.

We still offer traditional parasol trees but our new generation of parasol trees and natural shade options offer more opportunities. They can be implemented a lot better in any type of garden and provide a good balance between atmosphere and function.

Are you looking for a stylish, atmospheric and low-maintenance parasol tree or natural roof for your terrace?
Look no more, you have come to the right place.

Or are you looking for another natural sun protection solution? Discover the possibilities and please contact us.
Determining the best type of natural shade to go with a design or environment is part of our daily business.

Our blockforms are available in standard sizes and custom sizes.
We have beamforms and cube shapes in a beautiful variety of sizes.
Slender beamforms or cube-shaped trees with unusual dimensions are also available.
In addition to the various dimensions of the cube-shaped crown, we also offer several stem heights.

Low screens provide defensive cover on terraces and small outdoor areas such as a courtyard or balcony. They may or may not be movable. They provide you with privacy, protection from wind or are arranged to discreetly hide disturbing elements or to decorate a wall with the green of nature.
Our low screens can also be used to replace a hedge or unnatural fences such as fences with wire or wooden panels.
Our live screens take up less space, are easier to clean and are more atmospheric.
Additionally, our screens ensure the best and most durable protection against intruders.
This 100% natural solution can be tailored to suit your needs.
Evergreen, flowering or any other unique ornamental value. Do not hesitate to contact us for more information.

We sell Quercus ilex in containers and rootballs but in this case we prefer containers.
Pleached holm oaks are carefully cultivated as privacyscreens and espaliers at our nursery. Cultivating and monitoring these particular oaks is one of the most important tasks at our nursery. We grow single-stemmed as well as multi-stemmed holm oaks for privacy trees.

We consider growing holm oaks to be one of our nursery's specialties. We are able offer these trees with standard stem heights and deviant stem heights. Our extra high pleached screens are rather unique.
Pleached Quercus ilex is one of the most durable espaliers. It also remains the most evergreen, along with ilex. Even during very dry summers and cold winters, the holm oak will retain its leaves.
The holm oak has deep roots and a small root zone, this ensures that the tree does not cause problems with paving, decking tiles, foundations or pavement.

Quercus ilex bears acorn nuts similar to Quercus robur.
Like the English oak, the holm oak is valuable to the environment.
Quercus ilex is used as a privacy tree in Belguim. This beautiful tree requires extra attention during cultivation and the first year after planting. The only guarantee for good regrowth is planting a pot-grown tree with good roots.

Holm oak grows in Western Europe, from Northern Ireland to southern Italy. This type is reliably hardy in the UK, except if they are grown in greenhouses. Extremely wind resistant and salt-tolerant therefore also suitable for coastal areas.

The Pallida is a good choice and offers an atmospheric outgrowth. The color difference between the older and the younger provides an attractive result.

Our lime trees are available with standard stem heights as well as with deviant stem heights.

Are you looking for a lime tree with a stem height of 150 cm or 100 cm? We offer these in excellent quality.

Usually you would first choose the distance between the levels and take it from there. Available distances between levels are 30 cm, 40 cm, 50 and 60 cm.

The distance between levels depends on what the function of the tree is.

e.g. A distance of 30 cm gives the most beautiful screen effect in summer and offers maximum privacy.

The lime tree can be managed with hedge scissors using the four-year pruning technique. The Pallida and the Cordata Lime trees are one of the most suitable lime trees to pleach. They are distinguished from other Lime trees by their beautiful winter look and red twigs. However, it is worthwhile to think about other Lime varieties, as each variety provides a different effect. The Lime tree is a pleached tree with a great ecological value.

The plane tree as a parasol tree.
The height of the parasol is your choice, it won't change because of the growth of the tree. We grow this tree for all purposes and also in all possible stem heights.
The width of the parasol upon purchase will vary between 200 to 350cm. With wide trees, the last branches are flexible for transport. Recommended planting distance of the parasol plane tree: between 300 and 600cm. We also offer this tree asymmetrically.
Our planes are completely sustainably grown.
The result is a less severe growth and delayed metabolism. No yellow leaves and minimal fluff formation by the selection of plant material and the position of the branches. The branches that form the parasol grow with the stem so there is little difference in thickness between the trunk and branches.
The plane tree is one of the most pleasant trees to spend time under. Its large fresh leaves provide protection against sunlight. Due to the transparent nature of the plane tree leaf, the shade is light and atmospheric. Plane tree leaves are free of insects and other critters, thanks to tiny hairs underneath the leaves. The plane tree has been used since ancient times to eat under, have meetings under, rest under, ...
Nowadays, plane trees serve as a patio roof, awnings and as trees creating shade for parkings, ...

A pleached quince tree makes a nice addition to an orchard. It doesn't take up a lot of space.

The quince itself is a rather unusual fruit, it is quite versatile when used in the kitchen.

As a tree, it has a very healthy look. It will provide a bit of diversity amongst other pleached fruit trees.

We offer this tree in a couple of varieties.

Hornbeam in block form.
Beautiful colors in summer and in winter. If you choose the deciduous hornbeam, this blockform also ensures a good result during the winter thanks to the beautifully sophisticated branch structure which remains visible. Of course we also offer this tree in our evergreen section.
The Carpinus betulus is extremely suitable in beam shape and cube shape. We offer block-shaped hornbeam in different models at various stem heights.
The hornbeam has an attractive trunk. We also grow these trees with beautifully twisted trunks.

In order to successfully integrate block forms in your garden, please contact our nursery.
We can advise which dimensions will give the best results, no matter how big or small your project is.

The low screens of the Christmas Berry, Photinia fraseri 'Red Robin' are available in multiple sizes.
These low screens are suitable to keep in pots or movable trays.
The quality is in the fully natural build-up of these screens (We don't use metal as an additional support for the plants.)
As a replacement for a hedge they distinguish themselves in their space-saving build.
For more information about sizes, please contact.
Screen heights starting from the ground: 120cm / 150cm / 180cm / 220cm / 250cm / 305cm

The pleached photinia or Christmas Berry is an evergreen espalier which, unlike other evergreen espaliers, is constantly changing. By this I mean that the colors change throughout the seasons. During the winter months the leaves are dark green. Early spring brings bright red buds, turning your green screen into a deep vibrant red. While the red colouring slowly subsides,  delicate whitish green pearls soon open into white flowers. During the short period of bloom the flowers are very popular with honey bees.
Our pleached photinia is grown outside as a sapling. Then it is planted in a container and has one year to grow roots.
The result are strong trees that suffer a minimum of stress to the root system when replanting.

We offer pleached photinia in multiple stem heights.

A specialty product of espaliers: the pleached Liquidambar. Years ago we selected the 'Worplesdon' as one of the most suitable trees for beautifully sustainable pleached structures.

The pleached Liquidambar has a deeply incised leaf. The leaf is always fresh and healthy and has a certain transparency which, together with the deep incisions of the leaf provides a beautiful light influx.

The healthy properties of the tree and leaves also make the Liquidambar suitable for standard and also more specific solar shading control.

The colors of the Liquidambar range from a fresh green in the spring to a beautiful composition of light to dark green in the summer.

The autumn colours are spectacular, they range from light orange pastel shades to a fiery red to deep purple and are perpetuallly changing during this season.

The durability of the tree depends on the manner of cultivation. At the nursery of espaliers, we only grow sustainable espaliers, the new generation if you will.

Because this tree is one of our specialties, we offer it in standard sizes and deviant sizes.

Suitable for damp, wet soils and most soil types.

Other names for this pleached tree: pleached liquidambar, pleached Sweet gum.

We specialize in cultivating the parasol mulberry.
- The right variety
- Creating the right shape without the use of metal
- Adequate trunk height
The right variety
For our cultivation we select the least fruit-bearing mulberry trees.
Mulberry trees bearing edible fruits are available upon request.
Sustainably grown
We start shaping these trees from an early age. A high-quality parasol mulberry is always shaped using natural materials seeing as a mulberry can bleed if damaged or grow into the bark and trunk. Using metal fittings will cause this tree problems in the long run.
The parasol mulberry and the plane tree are traditional parasol trees. It is very suitable for dry places. Salty sea air does not pose a problem, yet it is preferable the tree is not placed downwind. The stunning, round-shaped leaves are deeply incised at the base at the end of the branches. The attractive foliage that is visited by very few organisms makes the parasol mulberry a very pleasant tree to spend time under, as it has been done for centuries.
Sufficient stem height
The mulberry already grows naturally parasol shaped. The branches can softly start to hang over. A stem height that is too low gives a very covered feeling.
We recommend a parasol height of at least 245cm
Annual pruning. Very low maintenance.
At the first severe frost the leaves fall off in one night.
Some synonyms under which these trees are sold.
Morus alba 'Macrophylla' / Morus 'Kagayama' / Morus 'Bombysis'

Furthermore we offer:
Morus 'Fruitless' & Morus 'Fruitless' Type2

Our trees can be delivered to your home or on-site.

Contact us for our conditions.

This parasol shape is due to the fruit.

The grape is not self-supporting so it isn't a true parasol tree.

This tree is used as a base for a pergola that will offer you shade and fruit the very same year.

Available in 3 varieties, suitable for northern regions.

Our grapes are resistant to sickness so there is no need to treat them for anything.

The Beech is available in green (Fagus sylvatica) and red (Fagus sylvatica 'Atropunicea') as a cube form, or as a block tree, just like the hedges.
Like the Carpinus, this tree easily retains its shape. The pruning of these trees is done at the same time as the hedgerow. Pruning should be done at least once a year.
We offer cube shaped beech in a container and with root ball. It is available in multiple stem heights.
Our blockform beech are always prepped to prevent sunburn.
During winter, the withered leaves remain on the tree. Because these cubehead trees tower above most hedges, they light up like golden lanterns in the low wintersun. Young and older trees are available.

Our pleached screen holm oaks offer privacy from ground level upwards. We offer them in several sizes.
    These screen heights are available from our nursery: 180cm / 220cm / 240cm / 305cm / 420cm
Our pleached holm oaks with trunks reach a far greater height of course.
With these screens we bring a unique tree near the habitat and terrace.
The bottom of the holm oak has a bright silvery color.

Quercus ilex as screen can be, under certain circumstances,  used in plant containers or plant pots so your screens are movable.

Our pleached Eleagnus is grown specially on its own stem and is in no way an ent.
Available in four stem heights and 3 screen heights.
Soft gray color, completely evergreen. It produces beautifully fragrant modest white flowers during the summer.
The Silverberry is an evergreen espalier.
This tree, which can grow in dunes, produces long shoots in rich soils.
We recommend planting this espalier in dry dunes or very poor soil.
This tree grows in other soils, but additional measures need to be taken.
Available in high stems and low screens up to 250cm tall.
We only offer Elaeagnus in container so good regrowth is guaranteed.
The pleached Silverberry is easy to maintain and is not very susceptible to damage. It is important that the trees are grown on their own stem. This produces a more sustainable result and avoids the roots growing uncontrollably.

The green pleached Fagus or pleached Beech is one of our standard espaliers at the nursery.

We grow this tree in multiple stem heights. We can also provide you with a pleached beech with a lower or higher stem height.

We can also accommodate you if you are looking for an extra high screen.

The beech provides a compact but structured screen in a neutral green. The beech is sometimes confused with the pleached hornbeam. The leaf of the beech has a slight sheen and the color is slightly darker than the leaf of the hornbeam.

The leaves of the pleached beech are marscessant . It is due to this characteristic that you can see the difference between the pleached beech and the pleached hornbeam although nowadays we grow both types as evergreens.

This espalier is available on screen. Pleached fagus gives a nice result and are similar in terms of maintenance to the hornbeam.

Fagus is semi-marcescant when pleached but marcescent as a hedge.

The fruitless White Mulberry is a beautiful parasol tree with elegant leaves that, like the 'Platanifolia' selection, are pointier towards the end of the branches.
This fruitless parasol tree has all the characteristics of a fruit-bearing mulberry but its leaves are healthier and seeing as it doesn't bear fruit, the fruits can't cause stains on the tree.
The parasol Mulberry can not be grown or pruned like other parasol trees. This tree will receive specialised care in our nursery.
The Fruitless Morus has some special additional features. You can find out all about them at the nursery.

More information about the fruitless parasol mulberry can be found here.
To know if this tree would prosper in your garden, you can contact us or your specialist gardener.

The pin oak in block form is a nice variety in the range of blockform trees. This unique and healthy oak offers a nice contrast with most hedge structures. With its larger leaves and vibrant green color, it can provide a sleekly designed garden with a more playful touch.
Autumnal colors make this shape stand out and influence the color palette of the garden in a surprising way.
Pin Oaks we grow in block shape are selected for their marscessant properties, just like our pleached pin oaks.
    Available in multiple selections.

Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula' used as a low screen guarantees a beautifully fresh sight during the summer months.
The elongated gray leaves meld into white or grey architecture, or contrast with other greenery in the garden.
These trees are used in open ground and in pots. We mainly offer them in pot thus guaranteeing a good regrowth.
Best planted in an area which is sunny to partial shade.
In spring a screen of white flowers will develop when the leaves sprout.

Our pleached holly forms a nice green screen and is one of the most low-maintenance evergreen pleached trees.
    Available in multiple stem heights.
    Available in multiple stem circumferences.
    Available in four screen types.
This slow-growing tree ensures a neutral green background in places where privacy is needed or where disturbing elements need to be hidden from view.
During winter, pleached holly provides birds with berries.
    Always in stock.
Ilex Nelly (Nellie) Stevens // // Ilex aquifolium Ilex aquifolium 'Variegatum'
    American holly / American leihulst

This ornamental plum doesn't bear fruit. You can expect to see extremely pale pink flowers opening in early spring. They’re populous enough to cover the entire tree, and the leaves have the same colour as the Ghent cuberdon, a typical raspberry flavoured sweet.

If properly pleached this espalier creates a unique atmosphere and background.

The appearance of this tree with its distinct color is soft and neutral. When the sun is low, the leaves provide a unique light influx. It is then that the added value of the tree is made apparent.

Easy to maintain and available in various stem heights.

Also available as a parasol tree.

The parasol Pin Oak is available in several heights. The height of your pin oak is not affected by the growth of the tree.
The parasol pin oak has branches that can bear quite a bit of weight. This allows you, if desired, to create a broad parasol/ area of shade despite having a limited basis.

    Parasol Type
We offer the pin oak in several parasol types. These are custom-grown to suit your specific needs.

The trunk of the Quercus palustris is smooth at a young age and becomes nicely grooved as it gets older. The trunk is quite decorative, strong and has a grayish hue. The root collar is attractive and is given plenty of attention here at the nursery.
Half permeable to sunlight thanks to the fine tips of the leaves which have deep green playful nuances. Atmospheric fresh shade, a parasol with branches that may hang slightly towards the end. The parasol pin oak showcases beautiful shades of red during autumn.
Annual pruning. Same benefits of a parasol plane if properly maintained.
We also grow this particular oak tree as a natural screen.
We work with an extensive selection without grafting trees.
The parasol pin oak is a durable parasol. Good pruning and long weight-bearing branches that move nicely and are very wind resistant.

Quercus palustris is one of our nursery's specialties. Please contact us to find out if this tree fits into your design.

Blockform or cube-shaped Holm oak or kermes oak.
Blockform holm oaks are usually applied in beam form.
The holm oak is particularly suitable for smaller gardens or where low maintenance is desired. Regular holm oaks soon take up a lot of space and require a lot of maintenance in smaller gardens.
The tree responds well to pruning and displays its special gray-green tint throughout the year. This unique colour is due to fine shoots on the outside of the blockform.
The silver-gray underside of the leaves use light to accentuate this blockform.

It provides a nice contrast with deciduous trees and shrubs, especially in winter.

Important in blockform holm oaks is that no metal or iron fittings are used in the forms.

This variety is distinguished from the 'Rotundifolia' by its darker leaves and a delicate leaf blade. The leaf blade has an oblong shape thus making it look more elegant.
This tree requires a slightly sheltered spot because it is more frost sensitive than most evergreen species.
    Available in screen shape.

The Copper beech works wonderfully well as a pleached tree. Its properties are similar to that of the Green beech. This red variety is also a marcescent tree. The tree is slightly more sensitive to sunburn which means it is unsuitable for planting in places where there is a lot of sun or light reflection.

    Available in screen form.

Combining the red beech with green hedges can be quite striking. The green of the hedges is brought out by the light to dark red leaves of the beech.

Our pleached gum tree provides fresh and healthy foliage when used as a low screen.

The Portuguese laurel creates a dark green evergreen pleached screen.
The delicate leaves provide a compact and dense screen.

Once, sometimes twice a year it is covered with flowers that are attractive to bees. If you do not wish the tree to flower, you can apply annual maintenance just before flowering.

Available in varieties: Prunus lusitanica and Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia'

This tree originally grew in sheltered areas of central Spain, Portugal, Marroco, Azores, .. However it is sufficiently hardy if placed in the correct spot in the correct way. Preferably plant it in a sheltered place. Suitable for lower pleached screens.

When pleached a sweet gum is always astir .

We prefer the 'Worplesdon' variety to use as a green screen, see Liquidambar styraciflua 'Worplesdon'.

We selected this variety many years ago to use for pleaching.

The decorative value of this tree is the tree trunk. We bring this uniqueness to the forefront by carefully cultivating and selecting these trees.

The parasol Black cherry plum looks very striking with its black branches and red leaves.
Available in different parasol heights and as young and old trees.
The height of your umbrella is not altered by the growth of the tree.
    Red shadow
The parasol Black cherry plum is cultivated in Spain as a parasol tree. There, it provides an atmospheric red light on squares and terraces during the summer months. The tree is resistant to drought and very suitable as a pot plant. The parasol Black cherry plum is fully hardy.
    Shadow Period
This red parasol tree comes to life  in early spring when its branches are overloaded with pinkish flowers.
We also grow this tree for lounge applications.
Annual pruning, sometimes thinning is required in the summer.
Small red shoots may appear on the trunk, this is quite lovely. You may remove these immediately or after a while.
    Sustainably cultivated

This evergreen cube-shaped tree is easily maintained and grows modestly as a tall-stemmed blockform.
This block shape changes colour in spring and shortly after each pruning.
The green blockform becomes a red one, thus immediately changing the atmosphere in its surroundings.

Also this: wrens and tits like to spend the night in this tree as well as in Quercus ilex because they are safe and snug behind the evergreen and ever fresh leaves.

We can offer Quercus hispanica in multiple stem heights.
These species are partly evergreen, usually the wilted leaf remains on the tree until the new leaves appear. However they can remain green during mild winters. This oak bears beautifully elongated acorns.
We offer this tree in tall stems and low screen forms.
Quercus hispanica is sometimes confused with Quercus ilex. The leaves are similar in terms of color. Please consider that hispanica is usually ented. Hispanica species are less durable than Quercus ilex.

    Quercus hispanica 'Diversifolia' *
    Quercus hispanica 'Waasland Select "*
    Quercus hispanica 'Wageningen (-)

    The pleached pin oak
The pin oak as espalier has a very atmospheric and natural appearance.
The magnificent leaves of this tree produce a beautiful light influx because of the way the leaf margins are incised.
We select trees that are evergreen.
Pleached pin oaks can be used both as a screen and as an espalier (in layers).
Besides the pleached pin oak we also cultivate this tree in a parasol shape (for solar shading control). This tree is very suitable as a natural parasol.
We offer the pleached pin oak as root-balled trees or container-grown trees. We don't offer  bare-root trees because we want to guarantee a tree that grows well..
    Tree height 150, 180, 200, 220, 250, 275cm
In addition to our standard stem heights, we also grow deviant stem heights.
We also cultivate these trees as extra high screens in mature sizes.
The pin oak as espalier buds in spring, it grows light green, star shaped leaves. During the summer the leaves create a nice effect of depth thanks to the leaf shape and the different shades of green. During the autumn period the pin oak bursts into a unique spectacle of colors.
Contrary to what is claimed, the pin oak is not suitable for all soil types. Please seek advice before planting a pin oak.

We grow Liquidambar as blockform or beamform in several sizes. In addition to the standard models, we also offer more unique creations.
By choosing this tree you are making a choice for texture and color. Our Liquidambar blockforms provide a nice alternative to the liquidambar spheres such as Liquidambar 'Gumball'.
During selection we're always looking for deeper autumnal colours, a unique approach with the goal of always delivering beautiful trees. We always retain the natural properties of the trees without grafting them.
Liquidambar demands little from the soil and is suitable for wet soils. For more information about this tree, click hier.
The sweet gum blockform is very maintenance friendly. Click on the picture.

    Botanical name: Trachelospermum jasminoides
    Star Jasmine - Confederate Jasmine
This beautiful climbing shrub is primarily used as a low screen.
We can also offer them as higher screens up to 4m.

By planting Star jasmine, you will add a wonderfully fragrant, healthy and evergreen creeper to your garden.

The callery pear is one of the most beautiful deciduous espaliers. The leaves come early on the tree and don't fall off until late in the season. In the spring, before the foliage develops, the tree is laden with white flowers.
    Early and late
Because the leaves come out early and disappear late in the season, this tree has a short period of rest, so it offers a long period of privacy. If continuous privacy is desired we recommend other types and shapes.
    Planting times
Because the optimal planting period is very short, we offer this tree in a container or root ball so there are no problems with regrowth.
    Pear Blossom
The Callery pear tree does not bear fruit. Blossoms are produced abundantly in early spring. The tree is remarkably resistant to diseases that affect the common pear. This ensures the tree always has an aura of health about itself.
The color palette of the callery pear makes sure it looks good in any type of garden. The trees are tolerant of a variety of soil types, drainage levels, and soil acidity.

    Preferably applicable to levels.
Available in multiple heights, the standard heights are usually: 100-150 - 180 - 200 -220 cm.
The space between levels is 30cm or 40cm. We recommend 30cm because the callery pear has small leaves.

In practice, this means 4-5 and 7 levels, that can possibly be grown as a screen.

Cultivated sustainably. Not to be confused with the pleached common pear.

Parasol Liquidambar or parasol sweetgum is a lovely atmospheric parasol tree and colourful umbrella. This tree offers a sophisticated shade as a parasol tree. The leaves of this tree aren't as large as other well-known parasol trees. Yet parasol liquidambar fits in most gardens in any kind of style, whether it be a small or large garden.
The trunk of the sweet gum is covered with corky fissures. This gives an extra ornamental value to your parasol tree.
Moreover, the trunk is very pleasant to touch.
Growing Liquidambar is one of our specialties. We offer this parasol tree in several models.

    Dakboom Amberboom

We offer this natural shadow in various stem thicknesses and in several parasol heights.
Over the years we have gained lots of experience with the cultivation of these trees. Feel free to contact us if you are interested in this tree.
We also use a selection of liquidambar for privacy purposes.

    Botanical name: Taxus baccata
English name: English yew or Common Yew
Common evergreen conifer, very suitable as a hedge plant.
If used as a pleached screen, preferably in larger gardens.
    Yew as espalier.
On the one hand it creates a very compact screen, the tangle of branches with fine needles provides a completely closed effect. On the other hand this ensures that screens higher than 200 to 250cm influence the atmosphere in the garden quite heavily. Taxus do not leave any light through in comparison with other types of evergreen. This sometimes results in a gloomy atmosphere.
Available sizes: High stem 10/12/14/16 and 25/30/35/40 in root balls.

The pleached hornbeam is a strong and durable espalier.
At first sight it might seem inconspicuous but upon closer inspection this tree has a beautiful muscular trunk and fresh delicate leaves. We grow this tree in a certain way so that these properties aren enhanced even further.
This native tree is one of our specialties at our nursery. This allows us to grow the pleached hornbeam in both standard and deviant trunk sizes and trunk types.

We are able to cater to smaller gardens with our pleached hornbeam. There are four varieties of hornbeam available.
Available in levels or screen shape.
    Sustainably cultivated
We focus on durabilitiy when pleaching the branches, both when growing them in levels or screen shape. This makes our pleached hornbeam unique and maintenance friendly.

Our selected trees keep their leaves for a long time or remain marcescent during their dry state.
Able to withstand high winds, except strong sea winds.

The Ornamental Pear as a parasol tree.
    Botanical name: Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula'
    English name: pendulous willow-leaved pear
Espaliers name: Gray / silver ornamental pear
We carry this tree in our range because as a landscaper you can use this tree to create surprising touches in the design of your garden.

The elongated silver gray leaves have reflective properties.
Young shoots are abundantly present annually and create almost light gray to white effects.
The parasol Ornamental pear grows white flowers that are abundant in April. The twigs are somewhat jagged and lightly hang on the outside of the parasol. The leaves of the ornamental pear remain on the tree longer than the average deciduous tree.
Not a common sight but still a beautiful appearance.

The Osmanthus is a beautiful strong evergreen espalier.  We selected it as a suitable tree for delicate uses in 2009. Today, it has become a classic, used in more sophisticated garden designs. It has a beautiful leaf and bears delicate white flowers that are very fragrant.
We offer this espalier in many shapes and sizes.
This tree is one of the more beautiful evergreen species from the specially cultivated series of our nursery.
Delivered in a container, plantable all summer.

The climbing hydrangea is one of our special espaliers. At first glance, an ordinary creeper but if grown well it can be a real showstopper.

This hydrangea is disease resistant and very suitable for shady places. This plant grows well on dry and damp grounds.
Blooms come out in early summer and remain a long time.
The flowers are visited by bees and moths.

The climbing hydrangea as espalier is a thing of beauty. The branches are golden yellow and light green buds give a feeling of spring, even in winter. The buds come in sheet early and are able to cover a wall in a sophisticated way. The flowers resemble pearls during spring and reflourish during summer. Even when withered, the flowers continue to adorn the plant until the next summer.

The full beauty of this tree only comes into its own in old age. The artistic stem is then beautiful in its own right. Our nursery offers young trees up to 15 years but our specialization lies in the older ones.

Wisteria from the Wisteria sinensis, Wisteria floribunda and Brachybotrys selections.
Enjoy an atmospheric shade under a canopy of flowers.
Durable and grown with care in a unique manner designed to use as a parasol or a natural sunscreen. We don't use metal fittings in the cultivation of our wisteria.

We grow various selections in multiple colors and shapes that will surprise you every time. It is worth noting that our wisteria are slow-growing and easy to maintain.

Available in several types and models. Some models are offered as a project.
Also in 5 different stem heights.
The most common parasol height with wisteria are 250cm and 275cm. Since these trees have downward growing flowers (we offer flower lengths up to 120cm!), it may be advisable to opt for even higher stem levels.
All our wisteria parasols are available in young and older trees.
Below a few types from our range of 22 varieties.
    Wisteria floribunda 'Kuchi-Beni'
    Wisteria floribunda 'Macrobotrys'
    Wisteria floribunda 'Black Dragon'
    Wisteria bachybotrys 'Okojama'
    Wisteria 'Shiro Kapitan Fuji'
    Wisteria sinensis 'Issai'
    Wisteria floribunda 'Alba longissima'

Growing and gathering Wisteria is our passion. At the nursery you will discover very unique specimens.

    The English oak as espalier.
A native pleached oak and usually planted in country-style surroundings or valuable farmland. The English oak tree grown as a normal tree is very valuable but isn't suitable for many gardens due to its large size. Our pleached screens are suitable for smaller gardens thanks to annual pruning and our selection of compact growing trees.
The pleached English oak is easy to maintain.
The tree is interesting for birds and bees and is loved by other valuable organisms. This pleached oak sometimes retains its withered leaves all winter. (marscessant) This feature makes it suitable to guarantee privacy but this tree is usually planted for its distinct appearance.

The oak bark has medicinal powers, the acorns are very nutritious for animals. The autumn color is orange-red and more striking when grown as espalier than in free form.
The trunk is nicely grooved. Not to be confused with the Holm oak that has the same valuable properties but is evergreen even in winter.
    Quercus robur
    Quercus robur 'Fastigiata'
    Quercus robur 'Fastigiata Koster'

The maidenhair's branches grow naturally horizontal.
It is very easy to maintain and has a beautiful winter silhouette.
This parasol is self-supporting, even as a sapling and thus further accentuates the natural aspect of our parasols.
You can discover several different sizes in this selection in our nursery. We have both young and very old trees.

This parasol tree also has a couple of unique properties that are suitable for specific applications.
Click hier for the Ginkgo biloba parasol tree.

The pleached Field Maple with its distinctive leaf can be used as a screen. The foliage creates a picturesque effect.

The trunks are light brown and have corky wings.
The autumnal color is yellow and may appear early. The tree is completely deciduous.
The field maple is suitable for almost all soil types. It can also thrive in a coastal region except very near the sea.
    Available in multiple stem heights.
    Pruning in the autumn.
The field maple is a fast growing tree.

Parrotia as a parasol tree is used for specific applications.
Not every type of parasol can be planted in any garden.
When planting in smaller gardens specific measures should be taken.
The tree is native to Iran.

The ornamental value of this tree is primarily the trunk. The shading on the gray trunk of the parasol parrotia gives a decorative effect and this from an early age.

Its canopy is a neutral green with a strong character, similar to the beech.
The beauty of the leaves lies in their discoloration that already starts in the month of August and becomes more prominent towards the autumn.
The parrotia autumn colours range from deep purple to bright red and bright orange.
Just before the leaves fall off, they have a yellow-orange colour.
As I said earlier, the power and beauty of this tree lies in the trunk. For this reason, we offer this tree as a parasol shape, especially in multi-stemmed trunk shape.

The pleached plane tree remains a beautiful espalier.
Pleached plane trees require more maintenance than sycamores. Pruning to restrict growth is not very easy with this espalier.
That is why we recommend this tree for larger gardens only.

The leaves of the pleached plane tree leaves can form a pale-coloured screen. The large leaves give complete privacy shortly after budding. The trunk is covered in beautiful patterns.
The autumnal color is yellow to golden yellow.

Maintenance: The plane as espalier requires a particular maintenance. The mode of growth is important to consider. A poorly pleached plane is not sustainable.
Branches of pleached plane trees (and other espaliers) should never be crushed when pleached as is sometimes claimed erroneously.
    Also platanus hispanica (trade name)

The parasol-shaped hornbeam is cultivated for specific types of gardens.
Light green leaves in the spring provide an attractive and fresh feeling.
Summer leaves provide a cooling shade.

The parasol Hornbeam has an added decorative value due to its beautifully muscular stems.
Becouse of this, we escpecially grow the parasol hornbeam in multi-stemmed parasol shapes.

Autumnal colour ranges from red-orange to golden yellow. Important for parasol shaped hornbeam is that these trees don't keep their leaves in winter so that the tree lets sunshine through.

Growing miltistemmed hornbeam in roof-shaped form is one of our nursery's specializations. I believe this is why we are able to grow the most beautiful and elegant specimens.

Parrotia tolerates pruning quite well which is why it is also in our range of pleached and parasol trees.
Pleached parrotia is part of a group of brightly coloured pleached trees. The trunk is very decorative.
    Available in several models.

The leaf of the pleached parrotia resembles that of a beech tree but has more depth and color. The edges may change color to bright red as soon as August and can remain this way well into the autumn.
The Dutch name is Persian ironwood and it is clear why when pruning. The branches are strong and slightly more difficult to cut than the average espalier. Despite this, Parrotia is easy to maintain.
We offer this espalier in standard sizes and deviant sizes.
Feel free to contact us for more information regarding this tree.

The Holm oak as a parasol tree can be planted to avoid people looking in from higher areas.
Furthermore, there are specific applications for which we recommend this tree.
The underside of the leaves are light to silver and give a fresh impression.
The use of evergreen parasol shapes must be done carefully so as to avoid too much shade in the winter months. For this we have developed several solutions with appropriate holm oaks. It is one of the rare trees that are suitable for this type of evergreen shading.
The holm oak is ideal as espalier.

    Henry's Lime.
This No. 1 bee tree is a rather special lime in our range. Tilia henryana has serrated leaves that run into dentated leaf margins. They are so delicate that they resemble eyelashes.
The decorative leaf of Henry's Lime does not drip, and the young leaves have a color which lies between pink and bronze.
Henry's lime as espalier is not only a beautiful tree, it is also incredibly interesting to bees and butterflies. The flowers hang in clusters on the interlacing branches and are more decorative than ordinary lime blossom. This why many beekeepers plant this tree in their garden.
In addition, hanging the flowers on the basis of the pleached branches means that they are preserved during pruning.
We offer these trees in 4, 5 and 7 levels.
The growth rate can be compared to the ordinary pleached lime. Cold winters can temporarily slow growth but the pleached lime will keep producing numerous shoots.
Available in bare root, balled and airpot +.

The gingko forms a refined and subtle screen with its unique leaves. The green color is quite remarkable.
If you take a closer look at the leaf, you discover a unique structure which tells you more about its genetic origins as a conifer. The ginkgo is a conifer, but behaves like a deciduous tree.
The autumnal color is a lovely and the leaves change colour at the same time with minimal color nuances. The fallen leaves are best left untouched because they are also a feast for the eye.
Ginkgo is cultivated in several types. Planting the correct type in the right circumstances is a challenge.

Maidenhair has medicinal properties, it is often taken as a supplement to enhance mental focus.

This tree is available in multiple stem heights.
Besides pleached for privacy and atmosphere we also cultivate Ginkgo biloba as a shade tree.
