Malus 'Red Sentinel'

This fruit tree without edible fruit, hence the name Crabapple, is an espalier with some special properties.

The reason why we started cultivating this tree as an espalier years ago is that the tree always looks healthy and fresh. A good starting quality is very important for this tree. You can recognise this by the beautiful full screen when you buy it.

In spring the espalier apple develops fresh, very light-green leaves. The blossom is a 100% apple blossom and is much visited by bees. Malus 'Red Sentinel' develops bright red miniature apples that adorn the tree well into the winter. We grow the crab apple in a full screen so that no one can see it in the summer months. However, thanks to the transparent nature of the leaves, sufficient light still comes through the leafy screen. The maintenance of the Crabapple can be done easily by manual thinning or with hedge shears.
