Pyrus communis

The pear as slate fruit is not only aesthetically pleasing but also guarantees a good yield. The slate pear tolerates pruning well and is therefore suitable to keep its shape. We offer the slate pear in various forms. Each shape can be trained in its own way. Our espalier fruit is grown from virus-free starting material. We offer pears in different varieties. Some of these varieties are self-pollinating, others need a pollinator to guarantee a good yield.

Application

Espalier fruit trees can be applied in various ways, from classical set-ups to modern demarcations. The strength of  espalier fruit trees lies in a large yield on little space, usually guaranteed and at picking height. The abundant blossom is an extra.

Maintenance

The maintenance of espalier fruit trees is an interesting subject to study. With the right techniques and timing, you can optimise the yield and you will be amazed at what your tree can produce. For this, a good basic tree is a must.

Here are a few basic rules that will already give you a good result.

  • Prune away wild shoots or water shoots. These are the heavily growing twigs that sprout vertically from the horizontal or sloping stem branches. You recognise them by the fact that the eyes or leaf buds are a little further apart.
  • The other twigs that are more closely spaced and grow more densely are the spores. The spurs are shorter in length and contain more buds. The flowers and fruit grow on them. You can leave these twigs standing, or if they are too crowded, you can thin them out.
