Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer'

The decorative pear grows well on less good soils. The slate ornamental pear is one of the decorative deciduous pear varieties. The leaves appear early on the tree and fall off late. In the spring, before the leaves emerge, the tree is overloaded with white flowers.

Early and late

As the leaves appear early and disappear late, this tree has a short period of dormancy, so it offers a long period of privacy. If continuous privacy is desired, we recommend other species and shapes.

Planting period

Because the optimal planting period is very short, we offer this tree in a pot or root ball, so that problems with regrowth are excluded.

Pear blossom

The ornamental pear is fruitless, but it does have blossoms and is resistant to the attacks of the eating pear. As a result, the tree always has a healthy appearance. The colour palette of the ornamental pear lends itself to use in any type of garden. The ornamental pear grows without problems in wet and dry soils.

It is preferably used on tiers. The spacing between the frames is 30cm and 40cm. We recommend 30cm because the decorative pear has small leaves. In practice this means 4 - 5 and 7 tiers that can be maintained in the form of a screen. Cultivated for a long time. Not to be confused with the slate pear.
